Johnny Berhanemeskel OUA Player Of The Year
Known for being the most clutch player in the country, Berhanemeskel led the OUA conference in scoring this season with 23.3 points per game and has been named a first-team all-star for the fourth consecutive season.
After almost redshirting his rookie year as a Gee-Gees walk-on, Johnny B flourished in Ottawa, quickly developing into an elite scorer and has since become one of the most complete players in the game. He finished third in OUA in made three-pointers with 52 and had the third best three-point shooting percentage. Berhanemeskel ranked seventh in field goal percentage at 55.5% and tied for third in assists per game with 4.5 with an sparkling 2.9 assists-to-turnover ratio.
Perhaps most famously, Berhanemeskel drained two game-winning shots in the final seconds against Ottawa's cross-town rival, the Carleton Ravens. One came in last year's Wilson Cup final, and the other came this season in a game that propelled Ottawa to No. 1 in the CIS Top 10 for the first time in school history. Berhanemeskel finished as only the 3rd player all-time in OUA history to score 2000 points, while also establishing himself as the most decorated player in University of Ottawa school history as their all-time leading scorer, all-time leader in 3pt FG made and for notching the school single season scoring record.
